MORE FUEL EFFICIENT. FEWER DPF REGENS.

Only from Thomas Built Buses.

Thomas Built, in conjunction with Detroit Diesel, recently announced the results of an ongoing fuel efficiency study of the Detroit Diesel DD5 and DD8 engines and the results were industry leading.

Data is being collected across the U.S. and Canada from Thomas Built buses with DD5 or DD8 engines with over 10,000 miles—no exceptions—in order to calculate and validate the fuel efficiency for each bus. This data is then aggregated across the population to determine an overall efficiency level across the platforms. As you can see from the data sheet here (link to sell sheet), the results have been outstanding.  Here are a few key data points:

    • 31% of the buses are getting a fuel economy equal or greater than 10 mpg

    • 68% of the buses are getting a fuel economy equal or greater than 9 mpg

Fewer regens drive fuel efficiency gains.  The proprietary technology in the DD5 & DD8 reduces the need for regens.  That means increased fuel efficiency overall and more time on the road.   Looking at the data, over 80% of the buses in this data set have required 0-1 manual regens which is an outstanding result.
